Friends in Crisis is the only homeless facility in Killeen, Texas that provides nightly shelter to those who would otherwise sleep on the streets. However, an unexpected funding shortfall has forced the Friends in Crisis board to temporarily suspend services that assist the Killeen homeless population. Their goal is to make the temporary closure on May 18, 2019 short-lived.

Homeless Veterans

Their proximity to Fort Hood means that they see a substantial number of homeless veterans. The work they do aims to provide a place where people can feel secure and are empowered to regain their independence. Without the services Friends in Crisis provides, many of the homeless men and women in the community will not have even their most basic needs met.

What They Need

This year they have experienced a funding shortfall. As a result, their current reserves are not enough to meet the day-to-day operating costs associated with running the homeless shelter. They need help now more than ever. Donations of any size will help reestablish this critical service for some of the most vulnerable in the community. The work they do meets the needs of 75 people each night. The operating costs for the shelter and services they provide averages $30,000 a month, or $1,000 per day.
