The House That 3D Printing Built
Homebuilding visionaries ICON came to us back in September of 2018 for help with a video project. They wanted a video that would spotlight the company’s newest technology while capturing the extraordinary scale (and soul) of their business: building sustainable, affordable homes with 3D printers. Founded in 2018, ICON acquired the first United States building permit for a 3D-printed home. By 2019, the company had been shortlisted for awards by Fast Company and Edison Universe. It now boasts the first “digitally native” approach to residential construction. Naturally, we jumped at the chance to help our Austin neighbors display this groundbreaking work.
Video Worthy of a SXSW Stage
Using our new RED HELIUM camera, we shot studio-quality footage of ICON’s assembly process, materials, and state-of-the-art 3D printer, the Vulcan II. Our videographer and creative team worked tirelessly, onsite and off, to ensure that every shot told the story of what it takes to build a house in the 21st century. Unveiled as part of SXSW 2019, the Vulcan II stands to revolutionize the homebuilding industry and bring 3D homes to the developing world — all of which makes ICON one of the biggest things to happen to human housing in over a century. We are only too proud to be able to amplify the ICON story through the lens of Kulture Digital.
